LAKOTA FREEDOM! We seriously need to get behind these folks!
THIS COULD BE BIG!
LAKOTA SECEDES FROM THE U.S.A.Let's pass this on to everyone:
I do not expect this to hit American news. However it can be found at
democraticunderground.com, at the blog for the
Unapologetic Mexican, at New Zealand's Yahoo News, somewhere at The Raw Story (will have to hunt there), and a mention at Ran Prieur's blog with the promise to post more about it. The mere possibility of this happening is just delicious... according to the UM's blog:
"We are no longer citizens of the United States of America and all those who live in the five-state area that encompasses our country are free to join us," long-time Indian rights activist Russell Means told a handful of reporters and a delegation from the Bolivian embassy, gathered in a church in a run-down neighborhood of Washington for a news conference. A delegation of Lakota leaders delivered a message to the State Department on Monday, announcing they were unilaterally withdrawing from treaties they signed with the federal government of the United States, some of them more than 150 years old. They also visited the Bolivian, Chilean, South African and Venezuelan embassies, and will continue on their diplomatic mission and take it overseas in the coming weeks and months, they told the news conference...
The new country would issue its own passports and driving licenses, and living there would be tax-free -- provided residents renounce their US citizenship, Means said.
The treaties signed with the United States are merely "worthless words on worthless paper," the Lakota freedom activists say on their website. The treaties have been "repeatedly violated in order to steal our culture, our land and our ability to maintain our way of life," the reborn freedom movement says.
If in fact they succeed in this (and the UN's recent decision makes it greatly possible, as well as their reaching out for the recognition from other national embassies) then they could easily end up beginning one hell of a revolution... and possibly a civil war. But if it ends up a peaceful transition (yeah right, but here's hoping) then the United States could be in for one hell of a wake up call, and I'm seriously hoping this ends up coming true. I'm quite curious about how many of my SerpentStone family would want to support this as well as my friends. But since nobody's really talking about it in the US, we in the Blogosphere have a responsibility to make sure they're heard. That means you. Get busy. Get behind them. Make this a reality. This is your chance to make a stand. Pass this one on. Imagine not just giving them their country back, but joining them on it. Would you give up your US citizenship for this? It's seriously something to think about.
I originally posted about this here:

I have since found these sites as well:
THE MAIN SITE: http://lakotafreedom.com
http://www.wildhunt.org/2007/12/lakota-freedom.html
I'm spreading it everywhere I can. Though I hear it was in USA Today, I doubt the media will put it out there much, and that corporate USA will hope to see it die down... so the more of us behind them the better!

How to help the Republic of Lakotah/ from their website
http://www.republicoflakotah.com/FAQ.html
How can I help the Republic of Lakotah?
To all people who have volunteered to help:
On behalf of all the volunteers of the provisional government of this newly reborn nation, thank you for your offer to help.
Where the government will ultimately be situated is yet to be determined. The provisional government is currently being operated out of Treaty School/Ranch in Porcupine, on the Pine Ridge reservation. This clearly limits the number of people we can have working here in person.
Not only will the Republic need more people working on its behalf, but in order to rebuild the nation we will need to attract entrepreneurs to establish businesses. A commercial center with more of an infrastructure than we have at Porcupine would seem to facilitate both the government and commercial needs for the near term future. In order to have the number of people who want to come and that will be needed, we are looking at setting up a temporary location, probably somewhere near Rapid City, South Dakota very soon.
Meanwhile, we are building a network of people helping from wherever they are while we get a location established for people to come. With the Internet, people can do much from anywhere they are.
If you would be willing to begin working from where you are, that would be great. Please let us know what talents and skills you would like to contribute. We know people tend to thrive best when they are fulfilling their passions. That said, there are also some administrative tasks, often the kind of work few people feel passionate about, but are needed nonetheless. Many of us are doing many jobs right now, as needed. It is very exciting.
We look forward to having a place set up for you and others to come here in person. Until then, we welcome and bless you and your contributions to our shared future.
Does the Republic Of Lakota accept donations?
To all who have offered to donate to the Republic of Lakotah:
The Lakotah people have great need for essential things like propane, food, medicine, new clothing, new shoes, etc. and have been for over a century. There are legitimate, bona fide organizations that accept that kind of aid. T.R.E.A.T.Y. Total Immersion Educational Endowment Fund, (www.TreatySchool.com) a 501(c)3 tax exempt foundation, also accepts all of the above.
We are asking those who want to donate to the Republic of Lakotah to please put the money into a money market account until such time as the Bank of the Republic of Lakotah (www.LakotahBank.com) becomes structured and operational. Then you can feel free to transfer your money to our bank.
Note: There are many websites popping up under different and similar names attempting to solicit donations, sometimes fraudulently using the Republic's name, and benefit from our endeavors to be free and independent. Please beware.

2. Many of the emails received to date have been declarations of support. If you are interested in offering active support and volunteering your time and energies, please email us with these intentions and your abilities, skills and resources, as well as your contact information.
3. At this time we are setting up a way to accept donations and gifts for the Lakota Nation that is accountable to the People. If you are interested in helping us, please be patient as we set up the structures necessary to accept these kinds of aid.
4. Information about the possibilities of immigration and relocation to the Nation will be forthcoming. Keep checking the website for updates on the future of the Nation.

Magnificent... I will be
Magnificent... I will be getting my financial aid check for school soon too, so I'll be able to donate. I'm relieved... was hoping this would continue on and not fizzle out.

Any word on how to help?
I emailed to see what could be done to help the Lakota but they've apparently been flooded with email so I haven't heard back. Does anyone else have information on how to help, what they need, where to address envelopes with contributions, etc?
No clue thus far, but I know
No clue thus far, but I know I'll be on it when they do... I've not yet been replied to either. I hope he does open a support channel, since apparently a great deal of Lakota and other Sioux are not behind him on this, he'll need others.

I was excited to see this
I was excited to see this and very much want to support the Lakota Nation! Like Vivienne I was impressed with their generous outreach to the descendents of their oppressors. It is so inspiring to witness such commitment to what is right.
INDIGINEOUS PEOPLE ARE
INDIGINEOUS PEOPLE ARE LEADING THE WAY
I read this on Carolyn Baker's site and am really excited too.
What courage to step out and reclaim what was stolen.
How generous to extend a hand to descendants of those who stole it!
I wonder if they would accept Canadians?
I've been looking for somewhere to put a tipi for a longtime.
Yesterday we rowed over to a small island across from us in the river.
We were trimming cedar boughs for the house.
We landed just underneath the huge eagle's nest.
There were five of them soaring overhead.
It was so beautiful and peaceful I just wanted to stay.
After out time there as we rowed back to our house I felt such a peace.
Being close to Mother Earth heals and feeds us we need so little.
love & light Vivienne, Ladner, B.C.
